How do you describe your Craft?
I am a painter; I currently work in oils but also paint in watercolor and soft pastels. For me the subject dictates the medium I use.

Describe one of your favorite moments as an artist.
I love the initial excitement, when light describes an object, a scene and I can think of nothing else until I sketch the concept, start the painting...set in motion the creative process.
What inspires or Motivates your work currently?
Its always the colors, the textures...the light describing the world around me.
Its hay baling season on the Peninsula now and I love to paint hay bales, I love to paint their geometric regularity across a field against their odd, slumpy, weedy profiles...and all that complemented by the dynamic sunsets we have been experiencing. The big skies of Sequim afford me that subject matter.

What artists or people have influenced your practice?
I’ve been involved in the arts all my life. My mother was an artist and I see her influence in my work. Historically, its so many artists but present day I would say alla prima painters influence me.

At this MOment with COVID-19, how can the arts help?
The arts bring such joy, inspiration to viewers; I believe the arts can take us outside ourselves, our isolation, away from the news, the chaos….the arts bring us moments of joy and peace.
how has this situation hit your craft and how can we help YOU?
With galleries closed, with Studio Tours on hold, selling art is difficult and we all need to sell our work to buy more supplies cause we have to create...there is no choice there...the urge to create is such a driving force! So any exposure is welcome!

POst COVID-19, what do you hope changes in Sequim ? what role do you think the arts might play to support our Sequim?
I would love to see a revival of the ‘Studio Tour’ in Sequim; I think the public is intrigued with the artist’s work space and I believe art sells really well when the public understands the artist’s inspiration ….a Studio Tour creates the opportunity for that interaction to occur...AND Sequim has so many fabulous artists with such a wide range of mediums and styles….bringing back the Studio Tour would be exciting and supportive for the arts, for the community.
What is ONE Creative Practice for any level artist that you recommend for our readers at this time?
Always carry a little sketch book and pencil with you; constantly sketch/draw; sketching/drawing forces you to ‘see’ and you become better at ‘seeing’, really seeing!

What were you concerned about 3 weeks ago that you’re no longer worried about NOW?
How to get all my chores, errands done so I could maximize my studio time; now I have the luxury of endless hours in my studio and my productivity is deliciously high!!!
anything else you wish to add?
Thank you for this opportunity; the Arts have gained so much momentum in Sequim with the Sequim Arts Advisory Commission.
